Historic Town of Vigan
Established in the 16th century, Vigan is the best-preserved example of a planned Spanish colonial town in Asia. Its architecture reflects the coming together of cultural elements from elsewhere in the Philippines, from China and from Europe, resulting in a culture and townscape that have no parallel anywhere in East and South-East Asia.(refer to : whc.unesco.org/en/)

フィリピンの植民地時代の建築様式を色濃く残す、フィリピン・ビガン歴史地区。
かつてフィリピンには同様の町並みが数多く残されていたのですが、太平洋戦争の戦禍により失われ、ここビガンが遺された数少ない町並みだそうです。
非常にアクセスが困難な辺境にあり、訪問した人々の評判としては、労多くして・・・という不満も聞かれますが、フィリピン様式とスペイン様式が合体した建物群・・・・石造りのコロニアルな１階部分と木造の２階部分など・・は非常に興味深く、楽しむことができました。
外国人の姿をほぼ見かけない、フィリピンの方々が憧れて押し寄せる観光地となっています。
