
城下町・臼杵のまちなみ / Usuki, the caslte town
日本、大分、臼杵の街並みです。
豊後水道に面した臼杵川河口の沖績地上に形成された臼杵の町は、
古くから城下町として栄え、その商人町は「町八町」と呼ばれましたが、
今でも酒蔵や醤油醸造所が立ち並び、伝統的街並みを形成しております(浜町)
また、二王座付近には、武家屋敷群と寺社が建ち並び、城下町の趣を醸し出しております。

Since old days the Usuki Domain, facing Bungo Suido (the channel between Kyushu and Shikoku Islands) developed as a alluvial lowland of the Usuki-gawa River estuary,and as the castle town.
The area of merchants, called as ”machihattyo”, very flourished, and at the present, streets in this area are lined with Sake Breweries,and so on. They consist of the traditional townscapes.( in Hamacho-town).
The streets are lined the residences of samurai, temples etc around “Nioza” area.
