The many samurai residences and the merchant’s houses still remain today.

清流，高梁川が流れる小京都，高梁のまちなみです。
日本一高い所に存する備中松山城（備中松山藩）の城下町として武家屋敷町（石火矢町），商家町（本町，下町，鍛冶町など）が形成されました。
明治時代，新島襄らが高梁においてキリスト教の伝道を行うなどをし，高梁基督教会堂が現・紺屋川美観地区に建築されました。
