まちなみ逍遙

日本、広島県大崎下島・御手洗の集落の表情です。

御手洗は、江戸時代以降、潮待ち、風待ちの港として繁栄し、遊女も沢山いらしたようです。
現在も、江戸後期から明治初期の堂々たる構えの建物が多く残されており、当時の繁栄を偲ぶことができます。
私が訪れた時には、丁度架橋される数箇月前で、朝一の広島便飛行機に乗り、竹原から高速艇で向かったものでした。架橋されることによって街並みが崩れなければいいな、などと勝手な心配をしてしまいます。

Mitarai flourished as an important port for passage through Seto Inland Sea ( ships waited for a favourable wind, or a favorable tide) ，from the Edo period，and there were packed　　with a lot of prostitutes.
Today, many stately classic architecture , built in the late Edo period and the early Meiji period, survive in the form they once held.
In 1994, it was selected as a national preservation district for a group of historic buildings.
