Jikkacho Shimonzen ( Ten Areas and Four Temple Towns )
The basic demarcation of towns and areas of Kawagoe was established during the reign of Nobutsuna Matsudaira (1639-1662), a feudal lord of Kawagoe Castle.
The area of Kami Gokacho which consists of Edo-machi, Hon-machi, Minami-machi, Kita-machi, Takazawa-machi,and the area of Shimo Gokacho which consists of? Kamimatsue-cho,Taga-machi, Kaji-machi, Shigi-machi and Shita-machi, together with the four temple towns of Yojuin Temple,Gyodenji Temple,Renkeiji Temple,and Myoyoji Temple were collectively designated as “Jikkacho Shimonzen”.
Many official names of the towns and areas were changed at the time of amendment of the town/area names, as well as lot numbers in 1961, however some of the names from old times can still be observed in some places.

川越の町割　（十ケ町四門前）
川越の町割の基礎は，川越城主・松平信綱の時代（1639-1662）にできました。
江戸町，本町，南町，喜多町，高沢町の上五ケ町と，上松江町，多賀町，鍛冶町，鴫町，志多町の下五ケ町の十ケ町と養寿院，行伝寺，蓮馨寺，妙養寺の門前町を合わせ，十ケ町四門前としました。
昭和36年の町名地番改正により往時の名は変わってしまいましたが，随処にその名残を見ることができます。
