Ikebukuro is a commercial and entertainment district in Toshima, Tokyo, Japan.
Several shops, restaurants, and enormous department stores are located within city limits.
At the center of Ikebukuro is the train and subway station,and is the second busiest station in Japan, second only to Shinjuku Station.
The other hand, there are some alleys,along which small pubs and bars jostle each other.
These alleys come from the black markets at end of the Pacific War to the postwar chaotic times.
But in the last ten years,attractive alleys are disappearing from Ikebukuro.

冷たい雨が降りしきる中，池袋の路地裏の横丁にふと入り込んでみました。
西武池袋沿線に実家があり，そこで生まれ育った私にとって，池袋は「全ての用事が済む」大都市でしたが，落ち着いた年齢になってふと駅ターミナルから出て小路に迷い込むと，そこには何ともいえない昭和レトロな雰囲気の路地が残っていたものでした。
しかしながら，青江美奈さんの「池袋の夜」のなかで歌われた，有名な人世横丁は、再開発の波に呑まれて既に跡形もなくなり，闇市に由来する，居酒屋や小料理屋，クラブがひしめく横丁は，美久仁小路と栄町通りなどに限られてしまいました。
その美久仁小路内の広い一角も，既に草原となっており，もしかしたら再開発が始まるのかもしれません。
池袋といえば，どこか田舎くさくて，猥雑で，実際，風俗街なども現役で怪しい光を放っているのですが，女の私が彷徨う場所ではないので，この辺りで。
